The Scarlet Letter

But she named the infant 'Pearl,' as being of great price--purchased with all she had--her mother's only treasure!  How strange, indeed!  Man had marked this woman's sin by a scarlet letter, which had such potent and disastrous efficacy that no human sympathy could reach her, save it were sinful like herself.  God, as a direct consequence of the sin which man thus punished, had given her a lovely child, whose place was on that same dishonored bosom, to connect her parent forever with the race and descent of mortals, and to be finally a blessed soul in Heaven!
~Nathaniel Hawthorne in The Scarlet Letter

Are you familiar with the book, The Scarlet Letter?  It really is an amazing piece of literature, and it has to do so much with what is happening in the pro-life movement!  It offered me so much insight about the problems we face today in the pro-life movement.  This piece of gold in particular I'm going to share with you.

If you skipped over the quote above, go back and read it!  Basically what it is talking about is this:

Hester, the main character, conceived with a man out of wedlock.  They lived in a Puritan town in early colonial America.  You're probably familiar with the Puritans: they were a strict set of people, rules were almost what they lived for.  And for a young woman to become pregnant by a man she was not married to was seen as hugely sinful and she was shamed for the rest of her life.  No forgiveness aloud.

*Side Note* I'm not saying it's okay to go and have sex with whoever, but I am saying that if a person repents of it, as Hester did, we should forgive them.  That's what Jesus did to the adulterous woman.

I read this quote and was struck with the amazing truth it spoke of.  Though a girl sins and has sex with her boyfriend, God blesses her with a child!  Like, how cool is that???  God doesn't only forgive the girl, He also gives her something, the blessing of a baby no matter if she decides to parent the baby or place the baby for adoption.
There are so many stories that reflect this.  Countless girls have been reached by a Crisis Pregnancy Center, or an individual who God used in the girl's life.  They keep the baby (a choice they will never regret), get their G.E.D., get a job, maybe even go to college, get married, live their life, and all with a beautiful child to bless them every day.  Now, I'm not saying it would be easy being a mom when still in high school or college or trying to work and be a single parent.  But, the reality is, God gives girls a "Pearl" all their own, and even though they sinned.  Now isn't our God just AMAZING?????

Can I hear an AMEN!!! *I love saying that!*

In CHRIST,

Aubry
